I have made a Talespin game! by rpiquel I have made a Talespin game! by rpiquel

Hey Baloo lovers ^^
I told ya i had a surprise project in mind, right?

This is it! I am making a Talespin game!!!

About 5 years ago (yes, you hear that right!), i started working on a game. I've loved Talespin and Baloo for ages, so i wish to make a Talespin game (so much potential!!) I didn't have much experience with Game Maker back then, so i only did a little bit here and then, just for my own personal enjoyment and to learn how to program a game.

But recently, i decided to get more serious about this, and here is the result!

This is a "prototype", a very short playable demo of one level.
For now it looks like a "basic" platformer, it borrows graphics from other games.
But I have a ton of ideas for this project, and i may need some help because it's kinda ambitious ^^...

In the end, i want to make an adventure game (like a point & click or visual novel) with some platformers and shootem up levels.
I have fond memories of the Disney games of the 90s and I wished the best series ever had better games adaptations! So i'm making my own version! ^^'

And, of course, you can DOWNLOAD IT, RIGHT HERE : [link]

Just uncompress the file, then launch "Prototype.exe" to play.
If you play it, please tell me what you think ^^ I think it's kinda hard (on purpose because it's short) so i'd like to know if you beat it and how to improve ^^

Aww, man, it doesn't run on my computer :(
When I start the game the screen goes dark and then there are lots of pop ups like "file does not exist", "unable to load sprite" and "ERROR in action number 1 of Create Event for object controller:
Trying to set collision mode for non-existing sprite."

I made some screenshots:

It's a totally awesome idea nonetheless

That's weird. What environnement are you running this on? (which Windows?) You've uncompressed all the files first, right? (not executed the .exe directly from the zip?)
The errors are basically saying they can't find the image files.

And, thanks!!! We're currently working hard on it ^^ You can watch some videos on Youtube : [link]

Oh dear, I totally forgot to uncompress the files, I guess I was too excited XD
So now I did it properly and it works just fine! I played it but I didn't get very far, because I'm not used to playing on the PC and unfortunately I don't have a gamepad (although I'm thinking about getting one for quite some time).
I very much liked Baloo's smooth animation, his commentary and the animated image in the left corner. The music was well chosen, too, it perfectly set the mood :)
I think it couldn't hurt making the moving platforms a bit larger and enable Baloo to do damage to enemies with jumping on them.

Also I watched the videos and now I'm even more excited :D
The point & click demo is my favorite (I'm a RPG and adventure fan so it really hits the spot)!

To sum it up: I'm VERY impressed with your work and gonna watch you now and also subscribed to your youtube channel :)

Awesome!!! Glad to hear you're excited about it! (I am too, actually ^^')

And, that demo you've played is "old" now! The animation of Baloo has been much improved (actually being redone with the help of a professional artist!), as you may see in the videos. The final game should look much better than this prototype ^^
The game will also be easier (at least in the first levels) , and yeah, i've actually made Baloo able to hurt ennemies by jumping on them (this was shown in the latest video!)

The point & click part will probably the most important in the game (yeah, i also love point & click games / graphical novels myself!)

Oh and there is another playable demo (the shoot'em up prototype) here :

Given my past... issues with computers (I swear, there's little gremlins that like bothering me or something!), I can't download it.

Oh? what's the matter? Can you describe your problem so i can help maybe?

Well, I've not had a problem recently, but I was forced to stop using Internet Explorer a few years ago after one of those pop-up "we've detected some viruses on your computer, please download us to get rid of them" came up, I accidentally clicked "okay" instead of "no", and...
...Well, it started running and shutting down programs, and every anti-virus and malware program that I tried to run got shut down, and eventually I just woke up my brother and he managed stop it and shut down the computer. My mom later fixed the problem, but my brother literally did not want me using Safari or (when we eventually got one) my family's first laptop (my dad had one, but this was a personally use one) because he didn't want me screwing them up.
So, mostly, my problem is just bad luck. Now I'm just paranoid about downloading anything.

Shame the sprite for Baloo wasn't as good as this. They'll never make another Talespin game.

Maybe Disney won't, but I will ^^
You mean that my sprite is better than the sprites in the official games?

Yes! The spriets where puny and lacking expression. Just put in a lot of good facial expressions and actions and your a shoe in to surpase the origanal game!
